Today we talk with the creator and host of the grounded presence podcast Daniel Powell.

Hi, I'm Daniel Powell, author of:

Join me as I explore:

Authentic Identity, Deeper Community, & Spiritual Evolution

I believe life isn't really lived unless you are in deep community, being the most authentic version of yourself, and connecting to the world in a spiritual way. It sounds peaceful and serene but it's not easy to  pursue these type of deep connections. It is, however, very rewarding and deeply fulfilling. I don't have the answers or a neatly organized 5 step program that will explain how to create and maintain inner,  external, and spiritual connectedness. I simply have a wholistic longing to delve deeper into these spaces.

Through this blog I'll share stories, experiences, and thoughts about: unearthing your most authentic identity, pursuing more depth in community, and the process of spiritual evolution. I do this  in hopes of encouraging those of you that are seeking a similar deep connection to the self and the world.

We welcome Pete Enns to the show today to talk about the Bible!!

Here's what Pete says about himself.

I spent half my 20s and 30s in graduate school–first seminary then getting my PhD. I’ve been teaching, writing, and speaking about the Bible for over 20 years.

I like to ask questions and I don’t like quick, safe answers to make the hard questions go away.

I am an explorer. I’m wired to say, ”Yeah, but. . . .” I’ve gotten into trouble now and then for it.

And I love telling Bible stories.

Not the stories you might tell your children. In fact, not just stories that are in the Bible–although there’s that, too.

I tell stories about everyday normal people and their struggles with the Bible.

The Bible is supposed to be the book that tells us what God is up to, but once you start reading, you get more than you bargained for.

The Bible is ancient, weird, unfamiliar, from another world and another time. Some of it is bizarre, unbelievable, and even morally suspect.

The Bible that tells us about God is a messy book that just won’t behave itself.

I tell stories about this messy Bible and what it means to read it with both eyes open to its problems and challenges, and to its promises and possibilities.

I tell stories about the Bible to try to make sense of it.

Today we talk about his new "What the Bible Actually does."

Josh Grisetti is primarily an actor working in theatre and television. He has no formal training in writing, philosophy or religion. This memoir is his first book - and probably his last, as he has no further aspirations as a writer.

Josh was born in Washington D.C., grew up just outside of Roanoke, Virginia, and was raised in the Southern Baptist Church. He currently lives in Los Angeles with his dog, Cooter, neither of whom have any specific religious affiliation.

Carlton Pearson (born 1953) is an American Christian minister.[1] At one time, he was the pastor of the Higher Dimensions Evangelistic Center Incorporated, later named it Higher Dimensions Family Church which was one of the largest churches in Tulsa, Oklahoma. During the 1990s, it grew to an average attendance of over 6,000. Due to his stated belief in universal reconciliation, Pearson rapidly began to lose his influence in ministry with the Joint College of African-American Pentecostal Bishops[2] and was eventually declared a heretic by his peers in 2004.

Pearson has subsequently been the Senior Minister of Christ Universal Temple, a large New Thought congregation in Chicago, Illinois; head of a new Higher Dimensions fellowship in Chicago; and an affiliate minister at Tulsa's All Souls Unitarian Church.

Come Sunday

In July 2010 it was announced that director Marc Forster would direct a feature film about Pearson's life, from a script by Marcus Hinchey based on This American Life's "Heretics" episode.[19] In January 2017, Joshua Marston was reported to be directing the project as a film for Netflix, with Chiwetel Ejiofor cast to play Pearson, Condola Rashad as his wife Gina, and Martin Sheen as Oral Roberts.[20] The film, entitled Come Sunday, premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival[21] and was released on Netflix on April 13, 2018.[22]

And today he has started a new movement called "COME MONDAY" and can be connected with through his live stream each Monday night.
